M74 crash: Motorway closed southbound at Hamilton as traffic held after collision

A southbound section of the M74 has been closed down this evening following an earlier crash.

Traffic Scotland first confirmed restrictions had been put in place at around 8.40pm following the collision between Junction 6 and 7 between Hamilton and Larkhall.

Shortly after, at 9.05pm, they advised all lanes had been shut in response to the crash.

The nature of the crash is unknown at this time and Glasgow Live has contacted Police Scotland for information.

Drivers have taken to social media to ask how long the restrictions will be put in place, with some having already been stuck at a standstill for 40 minutes.

Traffic Scotland said on Twitter: "20:40 #M74 RTC #M74 S/B J6 Hamilton - J7 Larkhall.

"All lanes currently restricted, approach with care"

25 minutes later they updated: "21:05 #M74 RTC #M74 S/B J6 Hamilton - J7 Larkhall now CLOSED.

"Approach with care."
