A lorry overturned on the M74 this morning shedding its load of onions over the motorway.
Two northbound lanes of the M74 were closed for hours following the accident in the early hours of the morning, resulting in significant delays for rush hour traffic.
Pictures show the lorry having been moved to the hard shoulder and bags of onions strewn over the embankment.
Police confirmed the driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.30am on Friday, 12 March, officers were called to the M74 near the Raith Interchange following a report of a lorry overturning.
"The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and recovery remains ongoing."
Traffic Scotland have confirmed that as of noon the two lanes remain closed.
