M73 closed near Glasgow as emergency services attend multi-vehicle crash

Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle crash on the M73 this morning on the outskirts of Glasgow.

The accident, which was reported around 6:50am, saw the motorway closed (southbound) between Junction 3 (A80) and Junction 2a (Gartcosh) for around one hour.

Photos from the scene this morning showed queuing traffic and at least five fire engines in attendance.

Police confirm that there does not not appear to be any life threatening injuries.

The M8 motorway was also restricted (eastbound) at Junction 7 due to another road traffic incident this morning, with motorists also advised to use caution on approach.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police were called around 6.45am following the report of a two vehicle road crash on the M73 southbound at junction 2A, near Gartcosh.

"Emergency services attended and there does not appear to be any life threatening injuries. The road was closed for around one hour."

UPDATE - The M73 has reopened and all lanes are now running.
