Caution required on M7 motorway after fuel spill between Junction 27 and Junction 25

A fuel spill created travel chaos on one of the country's major motorways this morning with traffic diversions in place for some time.

Part of the M7 northbound was blocked due to the hazardous conditions between Junction 27 Birdhill and Junction 25 Nenagh Centre.

AA Roadwatch said: "Services are diverting traffic off the M7 northbound at J28 Castletroy (onto the Old Dublin Rd) while they deal with the major fuel spill further north along the stretch between J27 Birdhill and J25 Nenagh Centre.

"The fuel spill is also affecting the route heading into the Nenagh Town itself from the M7 at J25 past the hospital. Motorists can rejoin the motorway at J24."

It has since reopened but motorists are advised to exercise caution.

AA Roadwatch said: "The M7 northbound is open again after a significant fuel spill between J27 Birdhill and J25 Nenagh Centre.

"Continued caution is needed though as services are still treating parts of the carriageway. "
