M66 traffic news: Long delays and lane closures following collision

There are long delays and lane closures on the M66 this morning following a collision.

The smash took place Southbound close to junction three for Pilsworth Road, Hollins, and one lane has been closed.

It is understood the collision involved just one vehicle and has lost one of its wheels so is unable to be moved.

There are around nine miles of tailbacks stretching back to junction one for Ramsbottom and onto the Edenfield Bypass.

Drivers are being warned of delays of just under an hour.

A tweet from Highways England said: "Please be aware there are long delays on the M66 Southbound at J3 Heywood due to the ongoing collision.

"There is approx 6 miles of congestion back to the A56 which is likely to add around 30 mins onto usual journey times."
