People travelling on the M62 overnight this weekend will be forced to come off the busy motorway as Highways England will close the entire westbound carrirageway.
The overnight closures will see the motorway coned off between junction 28 for Tingley and junction 27 for Birstall.
The M62 will be reopened during the day, but there are still likely to be long delays as traffic on the westbound carriageway will be squeezed into two lanes and slowed down to a maximum speed of 50mph while driving past Leeds.
The closures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night have been described as 'essential', with waterproofing works needed on the eastern bridge towards Gildersome at junction 27 to maintain the structure and prevent it from deteriorating.
However, there will need to be another weekend closure in the coming weeks to finish the works - although this date is yet to be confirmed.
Are there any other works planned?
A separate infrastructure project will see the westbound stretch of the M62 closed between junctions 28 and 29 for an entire weekend in September - even during the day.
The work was originally meant to go ahead in June, but was postponed due to wet weather.
Highways England now plan to carry out waterproofing on Ardsley railway bridge from 8pm on Friday, September 6 until 5am on Monday, September 9.
