M62 snow warning between Leeds and Manchester after showers

Drivers on the M62 this morning are being told to be careful after earlier snow showers on the motorway.

There are still high winds in West Yorkshire, following nearly two days of torrential rain - all caused by Storm Ciara.

Only one closure now remains on Barnsdale Road in Allerton Bywater. On the motorways there is slow traffic between Leeds and Manchester due to the snow this morning, but all lanes are open.

Two lanes of the M606 at Bradford had been closed for flooding yesterday (Monday).

In a tweet, Highways England said: " #M62 #ScammondenDam We've had a sprinkling of #snow this morning so please take care on your travels."

Storm Ciara has wreaked havoc across the region in the last 48 hours. On Sunday, flood warnings were issued across Leeds, with flooding 'expected' and action required 'immediately' for those living in the affected areas.

Roads were closed and police warned people not to travel unless absolutely necessarily, as Storm Ciara showed no sign of passing. Many of those flood warnins remained into Monday. Four are still active in Leeds with five other flood alerts for 'possible' flooding.
