The M62 motorway remains closed in both directions following a police incident and serious collision this morning.
Police have closed the motorway between junction 21, Milnrow, to junction 24, towards Huddersfield, and westbound between junction 22, Saddleworth and J24.
The closure is causing tailbacks up to junction 25, for Brighouse, heading Westbound and junction 21, heading Eastbound.
Traffic is also heavy on routes through Newhey, Denshaw and Rishworth.
According to traffic alerts the motorway has been closed since 5.35am while police attend an incident on a bridge over the M62.
A further serious collision took place this morning at 12.30am, cause the Eastbound section of the motorway to be shut.
As a result the motorway is expected to be closed for sometime and diversion routes are in place.
Eastbound diversion
Heavy Goods Vehicles travelling eastbound, follow the "Hollow Square" diversion symbols.
Exit the M62 Motorway using Junction 21 exit slip road and proceed to end of the slip road.
At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A6193 and proceed along this road for approximately 1 mile to the junction with A664 (Buckley Hill Lane).
At the junction, turn right onto the A664 and proceed along this road for approximately 2 miles to the roundabout with Halifax Road (A58). At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Halifax Road (A58) and proceed along this road for approximately 2 miles to the roundabout with Todmorden Road.
At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Todmorden Road (A6033) and proceed along this road for approximaetly 7 miles to the roundabout with A646.
At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A646 and proceed along this road for approximately 10 miles to the junction with Aachen Way (A58).
At the junction, join the A58 and proceed along this road for approximately 8 miles to the junction with the M62 Motorway
All other vehicles travelling eastbound are advised to follow the the "Solid Triangle" diversion symbols and re-join the M62 at J24.
Westbound diversion
Westbound traffic should exit the motorway at J24 and follow the "Black Square" diversion symbols on local road signs.
This will route traffic on to the A629 north to the junction with the A646.
Turn left on to the A646 and head north to the junction with the A58.
Turn left on to the A58 westbound to Ripponden and turn left on to the A672 southbound. Continue south on the A672 to J22 of the M62.
