M62 lanes reopened after car fire near Rochdale

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service were called to the scene of a car fire on the westbound carriageway of the M62 earlier this morning.

The incident was reported just before 5am on Saturday 24 July.

As a result, two lanes were forced to close at Junction 20 (for Thornham Island A627M), but a third lane remained open.

Traffic officers from Transport for Greater Manchester provided assistance at the scene.

Normal traffic conditions resumed between 5:30am and 05:45am.

The condition of the vehicle's occupant(s) is currently unknown, nor what caused the car to be engulfed in flames.
