M62 driver spotted watching YouTube as he cruised at 70mph

A driver was caught watching YouTube while doing almost 70mph in heavy rain on the M62 .

Officers from Merseyside Police's Roads Policing Unit were set to pass the vehicle while on duty on Tuesday night.

But as they began to pull alongside the car they were left shocked at seeing the glare of a screen on the dashboard in front of the driver.

Further inquiries led them to believe the driver had been watching a clip on the video streaming website while travelling in the middle lane of the motorway.

The officers involved later released an image appearing to show the vehicle as they prepared to overtake it, highlighting the screen of a mobile device in front of the driver.

Writing on the Twitter, the Roads Policing Unit said: "Despite the appalling weather yesterday this driver on the M62 thought it was ok to drive along whilst watching YouTube! Vehicle stopped and driver reported for offence."

Clarifying the action they had taken, the account later wrote: "Everyone is reported to the central ticket office where they will either be offered an educational course, fixed penalty ticket or court summons depending on the offence."
