M62 delays after caravan overturns causing central reservation damage

A crash caused hour long delays on the M62 near Denshaw on Tuesday afternoon after a caravan overturned.

The smash, between a van and a vehicle towing a caravan, caused extensive damage to the central reservation.

Highways England officers were called to the Eastbound stretch of the motorway, between junction 22 for Rishworth Moor and 23 for New Hey Road, at 3.30pm.

A Highways spokesman said: "It involved a van and a caravan which has been overturned. We don't believe there are any injuries.

"Police are at the scene."

All lanes were initially closed, causing delays of around an hour.

By 4.30pm, two lanes were reopened and all vehicles were moved to the hard shoulder.

Lane three remained closed due to 'extensive damage' to the central reservation, a tweet by Highways England said.

By 4.30pm, there were delays of around 30 minutes.

There were queues back to junction 25 for Brighhouse.

Motorists were urged to allow extra time for their journeys, a Highways England spokesman said.
