M62 crash causes standstill traffic as police block off junction

Traffic has ground to a halt after a crash on the M62 this morning.

Emergency services are dealing with the smash on an exit slip road which has been closed off by police.

Traffic has also been held on the M62 as a result of the crash on the westbound exit slip of the M62 at Junction 7 Rainhill Stoops.

North West Motorway Police have confirmed police and ambulance are in attendance.

They tweeted: "We have the exit slip at J7 (#Rainhill) Westbound exit slip M62 now closed whilst Police, Ambulance and Highways deal with the RTC."

Traffic stuck on the motorway should be released shortly, police confirmed.

The tweet adds: "The closure will remain in place whilst we deal with the incident in the live lanes."

A lane was also closed on the motorway as a result of the crash.

Highways England are warning motorists that they must carry on past Junction 7.

They tweeted: "Any traffic wanting to exit on the westbound must remain on the motorway and continue down towards #J6 at #Tarbock."
