M62 closed in both directions as men suffer life-threatening injuries in TWO separate incidents

Two separate incidents on the M62 this morning have led to , causing huge delays for drivers heading in both directions.

The eastbound stretch of the motorway has been closed since roughly 1am this morning after police were called to the exit slip road at junction 24 for Ainley Top following reports of a crash.

Emergency services to find a motorcyclist had been involved in a serious collision with another vehicle, which left the male biker with life-threatening injuries.

An investigation was launched in the early hours of the morning and was completed by 8am - although the road remained closed due to another incident a little further west.

The second incident was at Scammonden Bridge, where a man was spotted above the motorway at around 5am.

Officers attended the scene between junctions 22 and 23, but the man suffered life-threatening injuries as he fell just after 6am. Investigations continue into this incident as the road remains closed in both directions.

Highways England are urging motorists to avoid the area if at all possible, with lengthy delays impacting thousands of motorists on their Wednesday morning commute.
