M62 closed in both directions after concern for safety of man on bridge

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the M62 this afternoon over a concern for safety of a man on a bridge.

Emergency services were called to the Coney Lane bridge in Huyton at around 3.40pm.

Shortly after 4pm, the decision was taken to close the motorway in both directions from J5 A5080 Roby Road (Huyton) to J6 M57 J1 (Tarbock Island).

It led to long queues of stationary traffic in baking hot weather.

Fortunately the incident was resolved by 4.20pm when the man on the bridge was reported to be "safe with officers."

All lanes were subsequently re-opened.
