M62 accident: 350-litre diesel spill forces Highways England to resurface road

Motorists on the M62 eastbound face long delays into the night as highways workers re-surface the road after 350 litres of diesel were spilt by a crashed lorry.

All three lanes were blocked when a lorry jack-knifed between J32 A639 Pontefract to J32A A1M earlier today.

Motorists have faced delays of one-and-a-half hours tonight as traffic queues back to junction 30 at Rothwell.

Two of the three lanes were reopened after the HGV was recovered.

However Highways England now say the lorry spilled 350 litres of diesel onto the road.

The agency is now closing two of the three lanes again near the scene in order to resurface the road.

They wrote in a tweet: "There will be significant delays in the area throughout the evening and night. Please plan your journeys."
