M61 Rivington Services southbound slip road reopens after vehicle fire

A vehicle fire on the M61 has caused early morning delays.

The incident happened southbound, near Rivington Services, between junction 8 (Chorley) and junction 6 (Bolton North/Horwich).

Highways England tweeted about the incident at 6.57am, to confirm that firefighters and traffic officers were in attendance on the slip road, heading into the Rivington Services.

They wrote: "The M61 southbound entry slip road to Bolton West/Rivington Services is currently CLOSED due to a fire.

"Traffic Officers and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene."

The slip road was closed for around 30 minutes while the incident was dealt with and nobody could exit the motorway to visit the service station.

It reopened at about 7.20am but the incident caused delays until around 7.45am.
