M60 traffic grinds to a halt as pedestrian criss-crosses motorway - this is the moment he was picked up by police

This is the moment a pedestrian was seen walking along the M60 on Saturday evening.

The man was seen crossing from the clockwise carriageway to the anticlockwise carriageway and back on foot.

Police were called to the scene, close to Junction 27 for the Portwood roundabout in Stockport, at around 7pm.

Traffic was forced to slow to a crawl to avoid hitting the man.

Police were eventually able to locate the man, and brought him to safety.

Footage taken at the scene shows a young man, wearing a facemask, walking in lane one of the anti clockwise carriageway between junctions one and 27.

An ambulance was parked nearby, while traffic was filtered through the second and third lanes.

North West Motorway Police shared some details about the incident on social media.

They wrote: "Male pedestrian walking in the live lanes. Matrix has been set. Police are en route.

"Male is continually crossing from the Clockwise onto the Anti Clockwise and back again. This is just by Tesco exit.

Around 15 minutes later, they followed up with: "The male has been located and is now with one of our officers safely in our Police Vehicle".
