A stretch of the M60 through Greater Manchester has been closed after a woman fell to her death from a bridge over the motorway.
The M60 has been closed near Ashton-under-Lyne for hours today.
Huge queues of traffic have been building along the stretch as emergency services closed the road to respond to the incident.
It is understood a woman has fallen from a bridge, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the woman has sadly died.
A police spokesperson said officers were called just after 10.30am to reports of concern for the welfare of a woman on a bridge near Junction 23 of the M60.
Police added: "The woman fell from the bridge a short time later. Emergency services attended, but despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Enquiries are on-going."
All lanes in both directions have been shut since about 11am, Transport for Greater Manchester (TGM) say.
Highways England warned motorists to expect delays of more than an hour.
Greater Manchester Police and ambulance services were on the scene on Wednesday afternoon.
One lane has reopened anticlockwise since the incident unfolded, TGM confirmed in a tweet.
The transport body said the closure was due to an 'ongoing police incident'.
Motorists were being warned to plan their journeys before travelling.
Travel service Inrix said the M60 clockwise was closed from J23 (Ashton Under Lyne) to J24 (Denton Island).
Motorists were told congestion had built up to J22 (Failsworth) so an air ambulance could attend the scene.
