M60 closed with all lanes blocked following 'serious collision'

The M60 is closed following a serious crash this morning.

The incident happened at around 7.20am and involved at least two vehicles, including a lorry which jackknifed in the road.

Police have closed the anti-clockwise carriageways of the motorway at Junction 21 for Rochdale and Chadderton.

The crash is causing delays back to Junction 22 for Oldham and the city centre.

All lanes are blocked and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

A diversion is in place which will take traffic off at the exit slip road and then back on at the following entry slip road to give police space to deal with the crash.

A spokesman for Highways England said on Twitter: "The M60 anticlockwise at J21 (Rochdale, Chadderton, A663 ). All traffic is being brought off via the exit slip, to then re-join via the entry slip road due to a serious collision.

"Traffic Officers, GMP, North West Motorway Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue and the North West Ambulance Service are currently at the scene."
