M60 closed after reports of a man falling from a bridge at Middleton junction

One carriageway of the M60 was closed this afternoon after reporting a man falling from a bridge.

The anticlockwise carriageway of the M60 at junction 19 ( Middleton ) was closed shortly after 2.15pm.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene.

The emergency services remain and motorists in the area have been warned to expect delays.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 2.15pm on Tuesday 9 March 2021, police were informed by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) of a man falling from a bridge on the M60 near Junction 19.

"Emergency services are in attendance and delays are expected."

Highways England tweeted that one lane of the anticlockwise was closed only to announcer late that the whole carriageway had been stopped.

"Traffic Officers are on their way to the area to assist," they tweeted.

A spokesman for NWAS confirmed a road and air ambulance were sent to the scene following an initial call at 2.11pm.

"We have not taken anyone to hospital," he added.
