M6 police stop drink-drive suspect attempting to drive wrong way

The North West Motorway Police were alerted to a suspected drink driver in the early hours of this morning (November 23), travelling on the M6.

Following a report from a member of the public about an HGV swerving in the carriageway on the M6 northbound, officers stopped the vehicle just off junction 23 when it tried to drive the wrong way at Haydock Island.

Officers later tweeted: "Driver was arrested for a positive breath test."

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the drink driving alcohol limit for drivers is 80 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood (the blood limit), 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath (the breath limit) or 107 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of urine (the urine limit).

The North West Motorway Police consists of officers from Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside working together to patrol the region's motorways.
