M6 driver with 'no tyre' arrested on suspicion of drug driving

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after allegedly driving down the M6 "with no tyre" during rush hour.

Astonishing pictures showed the wreckage of the car involved, with the front wheel missing.

Police said a woman was arrested after she was involved in a crash on Goldcrest Road, in Maghull, and allegedly failed to stop at the scene.

The force said the crash on Wednesday evening, at about 6.35pm, "caused damage and left part of the car at the scene".

The vehicle said to be involved in the crash, a Nissan Juke, was later sighted on the M6 and came to a stop on the hard shoulder between junction 22 and 21a, with "significant damage".

A 27-year-old woman, from Ashton-Under-Lyme, was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and was taken to a police station for questioning.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "Working with North West Motorways Police (NWMP), we have arrested a woman on suspicion of drug driving following an incident in Maghull yesterday, Wednesday 29 January.

"At 6.35pm, a report was received of a fail to stop RTC on Goldcrest Road, in which a Nissan Juke was in collision with a second vehicle, causing damage and leaving part of the car at the scene.

"The vehicle was sighted on the M6 and came to a stop on the hard shoulder between J22 and J21a, with significant damage.

"A 27-year-old woman from Ashton-Under-Lyne was detained and arrested on suspicion of drug driving and taken to a police station for questioning.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 823 of yesterday."
