Motorists are facing traffic chaos as part of the M6 is closed due to an "ongoing police incident".
The motorway was shut on Saturday morning in both directions in Cumbria.
It means any drivers heading to Cumbria from the North East could be caught up in huge tailbacks.
A car is thought to have been driving the wrong way on the northbound carriageway.
Police have closed both the northbound and southbound carriageways.
Cumbria Police confirmed that the motorway has been closed between junction 38 and junction 37.
The force said an investigation is set to be carried out.
There are no reports of a collision or injuries.
There is currently no update on when it will be reopened.
