M6 chaos as men get out of their cars and start fighting across lanes

A gang of men fighting on the M6 sparked a busy night for motorway police on Friday.

Officers were called to junction 26, near Orrell Interchange at Wigan, after reports men were fighting in the lanes.

They also spent their night at a crash elsewhere on the M56, making for a busy evening.

Police tweeted about the incidents on their North West Motorway Police account apologising to followers.

They said sorry for posting so late but cited a "busy change over" as the reason why they hadn't issued any updates.

The tweet said: "Apologies for the late post this evening. It has been a very busy change-over, with reports of males fighting on the motorway and a pedestrian live lane on M6 J26, and an RTC M56 J3a Westbound.

" B block with you till 7am tomorrow.

" Enjoy your Friday evening. #StaySafe"

Followers responded to the tweet hopefully for more information.

Twitter user @Phil_College said: "You can't leave is hanging? What Happened?

Another added: "Fighting!"
