M57 closed in both directions after man falls from bridge

The M57 was closed in both directions this morning after a man fell from a bridge.

Police and paramedics were called to the motorway at around 6.25am on Sunday, to reports of a concern for safety of a man on a motorway bridge on Huyton Lane.

A short time later it was reported that the man had fallen from the bridge onto a grass verge next to the northbound carriageway of the M57.

The motorway was closed in both directions between Junctions 1 and 2 while the emergency services responded to the incident.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said the man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

They said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in attendance on the M57 today (Saturday 13 June).

"At around 6.25am we received a report of a concern for safety of a man on a motorway bridge on Huyton Lane.

"It was reported a short time later that he had fallen from the bridge onto a grass verge next to the northbound carriageway of the M57.

"He was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

"Road closures in place while emergency services dealt with the incident have now been lifted."
