One person has been taken to hospital after a crash on a busy motorway left a section of road blocked.
The emergency services were called out to the M57 at around 9.40am today following reports of an accident between junctions four and three on the southbound section of the motorway.
One person has been taken to Aintree hospital and paramedics are still at the scene of the accident. The suggestion at this stage is that the injuries sustained are not life-threatening.
Highways England tweeted : "The #M57 southbound #J4 (#EastLancashireRoad #A580) to #J3 (#Huyton #A526) traffic has been temporarily STOPPED due to a collision. @MerPolTraffic @NWmwaypolice are currently at scene, Traffic Officers are on their way to the area to assist."
A police spokesman said that they were called to out to the scene of an accident involving a Range Rover at around 9.38am today.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service confirmed one person had been taken to hospital and that they were still at the scene.
