M56 police find van driver in problematic position on hard shoulder

A van driver who bedded down for the night on the hard shoulder of the M56 got an unwelcome early morning call.

North West Motorway Police spotted the vehicle on the motorway early this morning, close to Chester services station.

They posted a picture of the van on their social media account, saying: "Can anybody see the problem of where this driver was found tucked up for the night in his van, fast asleep, with no lights on?

"This was on the M56, around two miles after passing Chester Services! I'm sure the ticket has woke him up sufficiently to continue his journey."

The Highway Code states that the motorway hard shoulder is to be used for emergencies only and cannot be used to sleep in a vehicle.
