M56 partially closed as police work to help person down from bridge

Police have closed part of the M56 while officers deal with an ongoing incident.

The M.E.N understands that officers are working to assist a person currently on a bridge over the motorway.

The eastbound carriageway of the motorway is currently closed between junction 5 at Manchester Airport and junction 4 at Wythenshawe.

The North West Ambulance Service and the North West Motorway Police are assisting Greater Manchester Police.

The North West Motorway Police said diversions are in place but there is no congestion due to the low volumes of traffic.

Highways England North West tweeted: "The #M56 eastbound #J5 (#ManchesterAirport) to #J4 (#Wythenshawe) is currently CLOSED due to a police incident. @NWAmbulance & @gmptraffic"

@NWmwaypolice are currently at scene, Traffic Officers are on their way to the area to assist.
