A motorway was closed after a man spotted wandering on the hard shoulder started a fight with police and highways officials when they challenged him.
The crazy scenes played out on the M56 this morning.
Traffic had to be held eastbound between junction 9 Lymm Interchange and junction 7 at Bowden.
Police put a rolling block in place around 8am after the man became violent.
North West Motorway Police tweeted: "Report of a pedestrian walking on the hard shoulder.
"Police and Highways are on scene with the male M56 J9 Eastbound Police and Highways are on scene with the male M56 J9 Eastbound .
"We have had to put a rolling block in place whilst officers try and restrain the male who was fighting with police and highways patrols."
Traffic was released with one lane opening up again around 9am.
A spokesman from Highways England said it was "a police led incident."
