A flyover above the M53 motorway was closed for more than two hours this morning after fears for a man's safety.
Police rushed to the scene on Woodchurch Road in Wirral at about 4.15am and found the man who was clearly distressed.
Emergency services launched a rescue operation to protect him and he was rescued.
The flyover, above the M53 motorway, was reopened at 6.30am.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "The male was rescued by the emergency services and the road was reopened."
