M50 video shows moment truck 'in flames' closes Ballymun road causing traffic chaos

This is the shocking moment a truck went on fire on the M50 in Dublin leading to major traffic chaos.

Footage shows thick clouds of smoke rising from the unit at Junction 4 at Ballymun northbound.

The vehicle was carrying a load of waste but thankfully brave crew from Dublin Fire Brigade stopped the flames from spreading.

Gardai were also at the scene of the incident as the road was closed after the blaze began at 11.30 this morning.

The driver of the vehicle managed to get out uninjured.

The road has now reopened between the off and on-ramps at J4 Ballymun as traffic is moving better on approach.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident on the M50 near Ballymun this morning, 27th May 2021 at approximately 11.30 am.

"A fire was extinguished after a vehicle caught fire and the road was closed for a period of time.

A spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade previously said on Twitter: "Firefighters have left the scene of the fire on the @M50Dublin at Ballymun Northbound. However the road is closed to allow for recovery.

"A tractor unit was well alight, however the fire was prevented from spreading to its load of waste. The driver was uninjured."
