M5 traffic live as Easter Bank Holiday travel is expected after lockdown rules ease - updates

M5 congestion could build throughout the day as lockdown restrictions have eased in time for Easter.

Motoring organisations fear there will be millions of extra journeys as motorists take to the road to visit friends, family and beauty spots.

And although people remain cautious, the easing of some Covid restrictions could mean more traffic on the roads than drivers became used to during lockdown.

Motoring organisation the RAC predicts that drivers are planning 5.6 million trips by car to see friends and family this Easter.

The RAC expects the roads to be at their busiest on Good Friday, with an estimated two million journeys taking place.

Although this is far less than a usual pre-pandemic lockdown, it could prove problematic because people are not used to driving so much due to lockdown restrictions.

The the heavy traffic could start today as lorries and couriers take to the roads delivering goods for the four day Bank Holiday weekend.

And although English residents are advised to minimise travel and not stay away from home overnight, there could be quite a few motorhomes on the move.

We will bring you all the traffic news as it happens.
