M5 traffic: Diversion in place after motorway closure

A section of the M5 has been shut and diversions put in place to allow an air ambulance to land on the motorway this afternoon (Monday, September 28).

All traffic is currently being held to allow for the helicopter to land. You can follow our live blog here.

The incident occurred on the Northbound carriageway at J27 A361 (Tiverton) to J26 A38 (Wellington).

Highways England is asking all traffic planning to travel between J27 and J26 in both directions to use the A38.

The incident was first reported at 12.35pm.

Inrix, the travel monitoring site reports: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M5 Northbound from J27 A361 ( Tiverton ) to J26 A38 (Wellington).

"Held at around 12:35."

As of 1.37pm Inrix was still reporting the air ambulance at the scene.

There is now congestion to the A361 and A38 as traffic diverts away from the on going police incident.
