M5 southbound traffic: Bus fire leads to huge queues near Bristol - everything we know

A fire broke out on a double decker bus this morning (October 26).

All traffic was held on the M5 between J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead) and J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way ( Clevedon ) while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Smoke billowed across the motorway and fuel spilled onto the road.

Police confirmed there were no passengers on the bus.

The fire has caused long delays on the motorway, with drivers facing traffic jams of more than an hour.

The bus was moved to the hard shoulder - but as of 12.45pm, two lanes on the southbound motorway remained closed to recover the vehicle and clear the diesel.

Seven miles of traffic remain on the motorway at this time.

Highways England has warned drivers to allow "plenty of extra time and consider alternative routes".

A second bus has also broken down in the traffic.
