M5 reopened after police incident led to temporary closure in both directions

The M5 has been reopened in both directions after it was temporarily closed between Bridgwater and Puriton J24 and J23 during an Avon and Somerset Police led incident.

Highways England announced the closure at 5am Monday August 30 but quickly reopened it.

Motorists were diverted off both junctions by Highways England as police dealt with the incident.

Highways England tweeted at 5.40am: "M5 Both directions J24-J23 - the carriageway is about to be reopened"
