M5 opens to traffic after fatal crash involving pedestrian

The M5 has reopened following a fatal crash which left a stretch of the motorway closed for several hours.

A closure was in place between J19 and J21 after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the motorway.

Police officers were called to the scene at about 4.30am earlier today (Monday, July 20) to a report of a collision in the southbound carriageway.

There were heavy delays in the area as a result of the crash and First Bus described the traffic as being gridlocked this morning.

Highways England has confirmed the M5 has now reopened following the crash but warned there were still delays in the area.
