M5 near Tiverton closed after crash involving car and van

The M5 northbound was closed earlier this afternoon after a crash involving a car and van.

All three lanes on the northbound carriageway were blocked at J27 Tiverton following the crash, which took place at around 1pm earlier today (April 15).

Highways England staff were forced to divert vehicles off the M5 between the slips at J27 while police officers attended the incident, Devon Live reports.

Devon and Cornwall Police said one person had been injured in the crash.

“Police were notified at 12.55pm of a collision involving a car and a van at junction 27 of the M5 northbound," a police spokesperson said.

“The road is closed and traffic is coming off and back onto the motorway at junction 27.

“Reports that one person was injured but no details yet on severity.”

Highways England said earlier: "M5 northbound between the slips at J27 Tiverton we are currently diverting traffic off at the junction due to a multi vehicle RTC blocking all three lanes.

"Traffic is to divert off at the exit slip and back on the entry slip to head northbound."

All lanes have since been fully reopened.
