M5 Junction 19 slip road expected to remain closed into Wednesday morning

An M5 slip road has been closed after a motorcyclist was involved in a serious crash - and it is expected to remain closed into tomorrow morning.

The collision occurred at junction 19 for Portishead near to Gordano services shortly after 7pm on Tuesday (September 10).

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene on the northbound side of the motorway.

Emergency crews have closed the north entry slip road while they investigate the scene, it is expected to remain closed until 6am tomorrow morning.

Motorists hoping to enter the motorway from Portishead are advised to follow diversion signs which will lead them on to the M5 at Clevedon's junction.

A spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service told Bristol Live: "We were called at 7:09pm to the slip road of th M5 J19 to reports of a RTC involving a motorcyclist.

"The incident has now been handed over to the police."

A Highways England spokesperson said: "#M5 J18 #Avonmouth There is no access to the #M5 Southbound from the #A4.

"Traffic intending to head south to use the #M49 Northbound, turn around at J22 #M4 and return via the #M49 Southbound. The road is due to reopen at 6am."
