Emergency services, including an air ambulance, was called to treat the man for serious injuries.

Later, West Midlands Police said the man died at the scene.

A spokesman said: "Police were called after a man fell from a bridge on the M5 between junction 2 and 3 just after 9am today (September 2).

"He suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

"The motorway has since reopened."

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.11am to an incident between junction two and three of the M5. We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car and the hazardous area response team."

The closure of the M5 caused long delays south of the city.
