A diversion route has been put in place following a 'severe' crash which has closed the M5 this morning (August 6).
The northbound carriageway remains closed between J21 (Weston-super-Mare ) and J19 (Portishead) following a collision which took place shortly before 10pm yesterday evening.
Traffic was held while emergency crews closed all four lanes on the northbound carriageway, causing significant delays.

The road remains closed this morning while police carry out investigation work, with Highways England officers attempting the .
The agency has also warned motorists to avoid the area and follow a diversion route instead.
The diversion route is as follows:
Road users are advised to follow the "Solid Black Triangle" diversion symbol.
Exit the M5 at J21 and take the third exit onto the A370. Stay on the A370 until Ashton Gate, the road then leads onto the A3029 'Brunel Way'.
A spokesperson for Highways England said: "For traffic approaching the closure locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and may potentially have to re-route your journey.
"If travelling to this area from much farther afield, you may wish to change your strategic route, allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road Variable Message Signs and media."
