M5 crash near Cribbs Causeway adds to motorway chaos

A crash near Cribbs Causeway added to M5 misery this afternoon.

The crash happened on the M5 Southbound between Almondsbury Interchange and Cribbs Causeway at around 2:45pm today (August 13).

Highways England reported the incident in a tweet that read: "M5 Southbound J16 Almondsbury Interchange to J17 Cribbs Causeway.

"Lane 4 currently closed due a road traffic collision. Updates to follow."

The incident has since been cleared.

Meanwhile traffic site Inrix reported queueing traffic due to the crash.

The update read: "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M5 Southbound between J16 A38 Gloucester Road (Aztec West) and J17 A4018 (Cribbs Causeway).

"Lane four (of four) remains closed after lane three re-opened. Traffic is already heavy due to holiday traffic."

Holiday traffic has been reported along several stretches of the motorway, with accidents causing further hold-ups in various areas.

Long tailbacks are to be expected for the rest of the day, particularly around Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Dorset.
