A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after crashing by the M5 entry slip road in Bristol.

It was initially suspected a car driver was also involved but these reports proved to be unfounded.

The single vehicle crash occurred at the junction 17 roundabout near Cribbs Causeway today (Saturday, September 11) around 10.20am, closing the northbound entry slip road onto the major motorway.

Emergency units were dispatched to the area to deal with the fallout and aid the fallen motorcyclist, along with a team of traffic officers.

The force said: "We've now spoken to the motorcyclist injured in a collision on the M5 junction 17 roundabout.

"They've confirmed no other vehicles were involved, despite initial reports.

"The rider remains at hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening and the road is open."

The entry slip road was partially closed for about two hours whilst emergency services dealt with the scene.

During this time, the exit slip on junction 17 was also closed.

Traffic was affected and drivers were urged to avoid the area.
