M5 crash: Man dies as horror collision near Stroud leaves both sides of motorway shut

A pedestrian has died in a serious collision on the M5 this morning.

The incident was near Stroud left a stretch of the motorway closed in both directions.

Emergency services were on the scene after the incident near junction 12 on the southbound side at around 7.30am.

The road reopened at around 11.45am.

A statement from Gloucestershire Police, earlier on Saturday, said: “We were called to the southbound side of the M5 just after 7.30am.

“The man (the pedestrian) was declared dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

“The road remains closed between junction 12 and junction 14 southbound and between junction 13 and junction 12 northbound while a serious collision investigation takes place.”

Diversions were in place between Junction 12 and 13 due to the incident.

A statement from Highways England said: “Road users are advised to consider alternative routes and allow additional time for their journeys.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information who has not spoken to police is asked to call Gloucestershire Police on 101 and quote incident 71 of 5 January.
