M5 crash leaves baby needing emergency surgery

A crash on the M5 left a one-year-old child needing emergency surgery in hospital.

The collision happened near Worcester on Saturday evening and involved a Mercedes A 200 D AMG which left the southbound carriageway.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7pm between junction six for Worcester and junction seven for Evesham interchange.

The motorway was at one point closed in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene.

West Mercia Police said: “The driver was uninjured, the front passenger received minor injuries and the one-year-old passenger was taken to the Childrens Hospital at the Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham for emergency surgery.

“We are keen for anyone with dash cam footage to submit this to us via Operation Snap on our website.”

Traffic reports at the time suggested the Mercedes overturned and then left the carriageway.

If anyone has information regarding this incident or saw the incident take place please contact the officer in charge PC Ashleigh Meyrick on quoting reference 583i 10 April.
