M5 crash latest: Three people in hospital after van hits central barrier

Three people have gone to hospital after a crash on the M5 which caused severe traffic problems this evening (July 18).

Av Avon and Somerset police spokesman said they needed treatment to injuries not believed life-threatening following a two-vehicle collision.

"It happened just before 5.40pm on Saturday on the northbound carriageway between Junctions 15 (Almondsbury Interchange) and 14 (Thornbury/Falfield).

"The collision involved a car and a van. One vehicle collided with the central barrier.

"The northbound carriageway was shut with a diversion via the A38 to allow the emergency services to respond and for recovery of the vehicles.

"The southbound carriageway was partially closed while debris was cleared and damage to the central barrier assessed."
