M5 closed to traffic in both directions between J23 and J24 near Bridgwater

The M5 has been closed while Highways England carries out emergency repairs.

The motorway has been shut in both directions between J23 for Bridgwater and J24 for Bridgwater Services today (December 23).

Highways England said the road would be closed for around ten minutes.

The agency tweeted at around 12.20pm: "M5 Both directions between J23 #Bridgwater and J24 #BridgwaterServives.

"In approx 15mins due to central reservation barrier damage will shall be closing the carriageways so that we can undertake emergency repairs. This should last no longer than 10 mins."

Traffic is coping well according to Travel Somerset.

They tweeted: "All traffic being temporarily held both directions due to emergency repairs from J23 #A39 (Bridgwater North) to J24 #A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South). Traffic is coping well. Traffic is being briefly held in both directions for barrier repairs to take place."
