M5 closed to northbound traffic after multiple crashes due to bad weather

The M5 northbound was closed earlier today (Sunday, March 1) due to multiple collisions caused by bad weather.

The shut section was between Junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare and Junction 20 for Clevedon.

The road was closed at around 8.15am and lane three was also closed heading southbound past the accident.

Highways England reported: "There have been multiple accidents along this stretch this morning due to the bad weather."

Traffic was diverted at J21 and before following the A370 east to Bristol.

Drivers were then directed to continue to J18 of the M5.

Weston-super-Mare firefighters tweeted: “Crews attending multiple RTCs on the M5 after a call to one car overturned turned out to be four separate incidents due to ice and slush on the northbound and southbound carriageways.”

The road reopened at 9.35am.
