The westbound carriageway of the motorway - travelling from England into Wales - will be closed from 8pm on Friday (July 26) until 6am on Monday (July 29).

Motorists have been advised to take a diversion via the M4.

Highways England said on Twitter: "Planned full weekend closure for essential resurfacing and maintenance works. #M48 westbound #SevernBridge.

"The bridge is due to be closed westbound from 8pm Friday, July 26 to 6am Monday, July 29.

"Diversion is via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge. #weareworkingforyou

The bridge takes traffic from Aust in England into South Wales.
