M4 traffic: Police statement after crash sees motorway closed eastbound

The M4 will be shut for 'some time' after a car flew off the motorway.

Officers have closed the eastbound carriageway between junction 19 (Bristol/M32) and junction 18 (Bath) following a single-vehicle-crash at around 2:50pm today (December 7).

There's now standstill traffic on the busy route, as vehicles have been temporarily held.

Avon and Somerset Police has launched an investigation and the force is urging witnesses to come forward.

A force spokesman said: "The collision, which involved a car leaving the carriageway, was reported at just after 2.50pm today.

"The road is likely to remain closed for some time to allow for an investigation to take place. Diversions are in place.
