M4 crash near Cardiff leaves van driver with life-threatening injuries

A driver has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash on the M4.

The motorway remained closed on Friday night after a two-vehicle crash between junctions 30 and 32 in the afternoon. You can follow our live updates here.

The crash, which involved a white Renault Traffic van and a silver Vauxhall Vivaro van, happened on the westbound carriageway at around 3.10pm.

The driver of the Renault van has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, South Wales Police have confirmed.

Traffic was said to be coping well on Friday night after heavy congestion earlier in the afternoon.

A force spokesman said on Friday night: "South Wales Police is investigating a serious collision on the M4 earlier today.

"The collision, involving a white Renault Traffic van and a silver Vauxhall Vivaro van, happened on the westbound carriageway between junctions 30 to 32 at around 3.10pm.

"The driver of the Renault Traffic van was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Next of kin have been informed.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision and officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or manner of driving prior to it.

"Anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage which could assist the investigation is also urged to please contact South Wales Police quoting occurrence 2100024762."
